Welcome mother members and esteemed guests to another fabulous year of Jack and Jill!
This year, we show reverence for Jack and Jill of America, Inc, by celebrating 80 years of being - Celebrating Excellence - Celebrating Us!”.
Celebrating Excellence - Celebrating Us! - Since 1946, the Columbus Ohio chapter has carried the recognition as one of the initial ten chapters of Jack and Jill of America and the first chapter of the Mighty Midwestern Region. The chapter continues to maintain its vitality to date. Monthly service and stellar programming activities continue to be hosted for 5 age groups by chapter leaders, purposed to seek the same advancement opportunities for all youth, and for promoting National Programming thrusts in STEaM, financial literacy, legislative activities, educational advancements, cultural awareness, civic duties, health, fitness and well-being. Under the leadership of two-term Program Director, Dr. Dana Moulton, the chapter comes together to engage children in programming that promotes teen leadership, philanthropy and service as a whole.
Celebrating Excellence - Celebrating Us! - The 2017-2018 program year for the Columbus Ohio chapter, makes its grand entrance posturing high on the tails of the 2017 Annual Mid-Western Region’s Teen Leadership Conference, held at The Ohio State University and hosted by none other than the Columbus Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. The Columbus chapter boasts the the highest attendance on record for Teen Leadership, chapter participation at the On the Hill Summit in Washington DC, and the commemoration of Jack and Jill Day in Dublin, Ohio. For the fourth year in a row, the chapter has been recognized regionally for excellence in chapter- and community-based programming.
Celebrating Excellence - Celebrating Us! - Subsequently, as a natural progression, the aim for the 2017-2018 program year for the chapter is not only to continue stellar programming, but to amplify giving back to our child-focused organization and the Columbus, Ohio community that we call home. This year, as in years past, the chapter aims its service efforts towards helping at-risk populations (e.g., teens with mental health needs and infants at risk of prematurity and mortality). At the culmination of this program year, the Columbus Ohio Chapter seeks to pursue the highest distinction afforded to chapters – the 5-Star distinction at the 43rd National Biennial Convention, to be held in Kansas City, Missouri, and inclusion in the Jack and Jill Historical Museum, which is purposed to recognize the original chapters of our illustrious organization.
Celebrating Excellence - Celebrating Us! - Jack and Jill of America is indeed the premiere organization of mothers dedicated to raising the next generation of African American leaders, while enhancing the lives of all children. The Columbus Ohio Chapter of Jack and Jill, Inc. has a genuine esteem for our mother-based organization. As our members profoundly state, “We are Columbus” – a society of African American matriarchs in the Central Ohio community, engaged at the local, regional and national levels, tasked with the charge to realize benefits for the good of all children.
Celebrating Excellence - Celebrating Us! - Acting on the vision of Chapter Vice President Jami Ervin and the Membership Committee, a revival among chapter leaders and members has been ushered into the 2017-2018 program year with merriment. Our goal for the program year is to celebrate African American culture, chapter legacy and tradition, and stewardship. We aim to “grow” the chapter in a manner that propels us towards greater good and cohesion among the ranks. Collectively, with our tenured Associates and as individual members, the Columbus Ohio Chapter willfully assumes accountability to instill legacy amongst its membership through sisterly relationships, like-minded familial values, community responsiveness, and above all, child-driven activities.
More than ever, we are fortified to further our rich body of next-work for years to come by connecting our history and heritage with our present and our promise to Work, Play, and Live Together. For this, we celebrate our Being. The best of the best is yet to come.
Amy Eaton, Columbus Chapter President
